Course Objectives

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is both part of the problem and part of the solution to climate change. This course provide students with an understanding of the role of ICTs and their impact on the global carbon footprint, this includes how to estimate the carbon footprint of the ICT operations of an organization and access ways to reduce the carbon footprint by changes to policies and strategies for procurement of ICT, changes to ICT operations and revising business processes. The adverse environmental effects of the materials used in the manufacture of ICT equipment is also covered.
The course is divided into four levels i.e. Level One (Basic), Level Two (Professional), Level Three (Mastery), Level Four (Expert), each level with its own deliverables. A certificate will be issued on completion of each level.

  7. Explain Business Process Improvement
  8. Demonstrate how to Improve Data Centre Energy Efficiency
  9. Analyze Enterprise Architecture
  10. Describe the Procurement Process
  11. Evaluate and apply Energy Star Program and Quality Management
  12. Assess Compliance Audit.

What you should know

Important

An e-materials will be provided, along with quizzes, videos and discussion forums. Face-to-face workshops will be provided where possible and necessary to help the student deepen their knowledge.

Workload

To complete each level you will need to spend 8 to 10 hours each week reading, preparing assignments, communicating with peers and tutors. The student will be required to actively participate in working with other students and tutors.

Online Material

This course is delivered through the African Academy for Green ICT’s Learning Management System (LMS), Moodle. All course activities and resources will be available through the course website. Course materials include discussion forums, learning materials, and assignments. Assignments will be submitted online. Readings are all accessed online through links from the site.

Evaluation

To receive credit for the course, the student must achieve a cumulative course grade of (70 percent) or better. The cumulative course grade will be based on the all assessments.
